Where it started

I've been in the music business since 1978 - so that makes it forty one years in the industry. It started strangely enough when I wandered into a local music store looking for a place to teach. The owner said to me "hell, I can get a dozen teachers, what I need is somebody to run this store".  So I told him that I could do that and he went ....."ok" and I did six years of retail. One for him and five for me in my own shop. I really respect those that are doing music retail, though we never starved to death, retail just wasn't my thing.

What the retail experience led to next was my spending approximately twenty years doing service and repair work on stringed instruments. We used to see between five and seven hundred instruments a year through the shop. I really enjoyed that.
